Matariki is known as the Māori New Year in Te Ao Māori (the Māori world view).
Closely connected with the maramataka (the Māori lunar calendar), the reappearance of the Matariki stars in the early morning sky brings the past year to a close and marks the beginning of the new year.
Mātauranga Māori (ancestral knowledge and wisdom) is at the heart of celebrations of the Matariki public holiday and it will be a time for;
- Remembrance – Honouring those we have lost since the last rising of Matariki
- Celebrating the present – Gathering together to give thanks for what we have
- Looking to the future – Looking forward to the promise of a new year
Historically, the stars of Matariki were also closely tied to planting, harvesting, and hunting. If the stars appeared clear and bright, it signified an abundant season ahead.

What forms of shipping/freight do you use?
In Australia, I use express post. which is fully tracked and traceable at a flat $20 max using a box without any branding. This does not include insurance.
Insurance is available at an extra cost, it differs depending on the item’s value so if you would like added cover please enquire before posting.
I send WORLDWIDE and normally use Australia post express, which is $40 to NZ, $50.00 the rest of the world, and is fully tracked, traceable, and signed for, on average it takes 5-7 days to NZ, 2 weeks rest of the World. This does not include insurance, insurance is available at an extra cost, but it differs depending on the item’s value so if you would like added cover please enquire before I post. Express Australia-wide normally takes 2-5 days, however, Covid and holidays can create major delays.
PACKAGING
Your precious will arrive in a custom DFJ box, and be sent in a large box without any branding on it.
I am all about recycling and reducing waste, so often I will reuse packaging materials from other products I have received in the past.
